Project #1 Galaxy Gear Commercial

                                          http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f2AjPfHTIS4

THESIS:

If you have the Galaxy Gear you will be able to relate to your favorite television and movie characters who also wore the same technology.

TRIUNE BRAIN:

This commercial works with the Rational brain because it helps you to believe that if you own this product, you will be able to become Inspector Gadget or George Jetson. The images of other wrist computers and the sounds from the movies and television shows affects your Limbic brain because it connects you to the memories from them and brings up the information you have about how the characters used their "gear" in a cool way. Both fight and flight are used in this ad to create reaction from the Reptilian brain because some of the wristlets were used for finding the bad guys to fight, like the Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers, and others were to escape from the bad guys, like in Predator.

3 SHIFTS/TRENDS:

This video has an economic shift in it due to the fact of showing all of the television shows and movies in a span of 40 seconds. It is advertising through an advertisement. So not only are you being directed to buy this product, but you are being directed to look into the other products inside of this commercial. It is an epistemological shift because the majority of the ad is images. We only see words to tell us where the other wristlets came from and at the very end to tell us what the product is and why we need it. The 21st century uses the image over words to convey messages because what we see stays with us better than what we have read. Lastly it is an aesthetic shift because not only am I able to view this commercial on television, laptop, or smartphone, I can now view it on my Galaxy Gear.

5 FACTS:

Some "facts" this commercial conveys are that if you own the Gear you can become your favorite movie or television character. Also your life will be easier if you have your phone on your wrist at all times. The Gear is better than the other forms of fictional wristlets we have seen because it is less bulkier. If you own the Gear pretty ladies will call you. That the future "is finally here" because we now have technology on our wrists.

3 PRINCIPLES:

I believe that Pacing was used greatly in this commercial as a principle due to the fact of how the advertisement is timed. It gives you just enough of each image to process it and when the final product is shown there is a perfect amount of time to understand the functions of it and some of the features it has. The Production Techniques are very simple in this advertisement, small snippets of the show or movie that is being symbolized through the wristlet, a very calm and clear font is used, and simple music to tie it all in together to show you what the product is without many frills. The biggest Value Message that is in it, and that I have repeated many times, is that with the Gear you can feel just like your favorite movie or television characters. All of the wristlets shown give you the feeling that your Gear will make your life just as exciting and simple as theirs was.

5 PERSUASIVE TECHNIQUES:

You can see that Simple Solutions were used here in the way it makes it seem like your life will be easier if you own this product because everything you need will be on your wrist. Bribery is used here through the fact they want you to think with the Gear you can be a superhero or the family of the future. Nostalgia is used throughout the whole ad by showing the clips from classic movies and television shows. Timing is used as well because of how the ad is set up to build you up to the once imagined invention to the now real one. Lastly Hyperbole is used by the last statement of the ad saying "The Next Big Thing is Here". They have no way of knowing if this is the next big thing or not.

3 COURSE THEMES:

The Gear is an example of technology companies trying to persuade us into thinking that our lives will be made easier by using these products. That we can enhance our lives by living like our heroes who use wrist computers, and that the future is now.
